Art Of Fashion
Attention, designers. Get your five-to-10 movie-inspired clothing sketches ready to submit for this year's Art Of Fashion gala, on the theme of Hollywood . What's AOF? Think of it as a fundraising (for Rethink Breast Cancer) design competition from which the winner walks away with a $1,000 grant, a two-page spread in New Artist Collective mag, a contract with a Toronto boutique and a spot in the Art Of Fashion online boutique. Entries must be in by July 15. This year's event takes place at the Kool Haus (132 Queens Quay East) on Saturday (November 6). For detailed submission info, contact email@example.com.
Baubles boosts bravery
Not only is Baubles a super-cute, locally designed jewellery line, but the company has a do-good spirit, too. To help with shooting victim Louisa Russo 's medical needs, more than 500 pairs of custom-designed earrings were hand-created and sold through various Toronto retailers and city-wide fundraisers for a minimum $20 donation over a six-week period during the Baubles for Bravery campaign. The result? A $10,000 donation. For more information, call Antonietta Perretta, 416-236-4778. www.baubles.ca
Who's the Boss?
Look out, art world, Toronto's made the list. The Power Plant (231 Queens Quay West, 416-973-4849) is the first Canadian site to be included on the glittering list of international galleries in the Hugo Boss art pass program. Not that we need Hugo Boss to tell us we have a cool art gallery. But it doesn't hurt that the Boss is telling the rest of the world.
