Fashion Notes

Rating: NNNNN

Mood indigo

From tomorrow (Friday, October 8) to October 18, hit the Levi’s Store (322 Yonge, 416-591-7186) and get a peek at some snazzed-out jean jackets interpreted/embellished by 15 Canadian fashion heavyweights. They’ll be auctioned off by Christie’s November 23 at the ROM’s The Magic Of Indigo Blue Charity Fundraiser for the Patricia Harris Gallery of Costume and Textiles, set to open in December 2005.

Commercial break

Love to hate, I mean, hate to love the suckers on reality TV? If you’re a fashion designer longing to be one of them, get ready to work – in a RuPaul kind of way. The gig’s unpaid, but the exposure you’ll get when you win on Making It Big: Fashion Design Episode (on Life Network here and Oxygen in the U.S.) is worth the hassle. So if you can travel to the U.S., design, draft patterns and sew contemporary womenswear, have industry experience, photos on VHS/DVD of your best designs and the personality to carry a show, send an e-mail to MIB@forcefour.com before October 29 (with your resumé, portrait and photos of your pieces) selling/telling why you should be one of the three designers chosen.

Have a ball

Saturday (October 9) is the grand opening of a new knitting destination, the Knit Café (1050 Queen West, 416-533-5648). As the name suggests, you can sip while you click needles, shop the yarn emporium for future projects and even take a workshop to learn techniques for your new creations. Tuesday to Saturday noon to 9 pm, Sunday noon to 6 pm.

Dig your digs

Enjoy the International Home Show (International Centre, 6900 Airport, 905-678-4416) this weekend, October 8 to 11, Friday and Saturday 10 am to 9 pm, Sunday and Thanksgiving Monday 10 am to 6 pm. $12, stu/srs $9, children eight and under free. www.internationalhomeshow.com.
