Strictly Fab-ulous

Handmade costumes that put the F in flamboyant, celebrity interviews conducted on toy tape recorders (with everyone from Pam Anderson to Stephen Harper – hello), live entertainment, sponsorship by Iceberg vodka…. How could you not attend tomorrow night’s (Friday, March 18) gala closing of Stylish Report, the Rolyn Chambers exhibit at Spin Gallery (1100 Queen West, 416-530-7656)? A celebrity in his own right, Chambers is best known as Fab mag’s costume-wearin’ social reporter. And now, for the first time evah, 22 of his remarkable ensembles are on display along with nearly 30 juicy audio sound bites. 7 pm to midnight show begins at 8 pm. 416-531-6669.

King of jeans

If premium denim lines make you cream your jeans (as Carole Pope put it), don’t miss getting your shopping kicks at the new Body Blue Denim Lab (724 Queen West) concept store. Just opened today (Thursday, March 17), this intimate sister boutique of the Danforth fave carries only the best posterior-enhancing brands. Monday to Wednesday 10 am to 7 pm, Thursday and Friday 10 am to 8 pm, Saturday 9:30 am to 6 pm, Sunday noon to 6 pm. 416-703-7601.

Honour role

Still in college/university and think you’ve got the design goods to be the next Karl Lagerfeld or Miuccia Prada – with the samples to prove it? Then get your act together way, way before the deadline of March 31 and apply online (www.willowgrant.com/news.html) to win the Willow Grant Canadian Fashion Student Award for 2005. Not only will you score free rack space for your mini-collection at the Willow Grant Fashion Gallery (960 Queen West) from June 15 to August 31, but you’ll also receive a one-year student outreach membership in the Toronto Fashion Incubator, a one-week blitz internship with WG tenant designers SDG 033 and a consultation session with each of the judges (enabling you to drill them for info on their area of fashion biz-related expertise). Good luck. 416-533-7553.

Shalom, sweetie

On Friday night (March 18), expand your style horizons while giving to charity by stopping by the Great Hall (1087 Queen West) to take in the Fashion For Passion show , featuring the work of seven Israeli designers. All proceeds will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the One-Family Fund . 8 pm. $15, students $10. 416-537-0803, www.greathall.ca.
