Fall fashion kick off
Preloved (www.preloved.ca) is launching its fall collection across Canada this week with parties and fashion shows at its Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal shops. Toronto's bash is tonight (Thursday, August 24) and kicks off with an invite-only runway presentation at Czehoski (678 Queen West) at 5:30 pm. After checking out new fall styles, the very important Preloveders will head to the boutique (613 Queen West, 416-504-8704) to join the store's fans for shopping and brewskis from 6 to 9 pm.
If you missed the opening night ho-down for artist/designer Sarah Teitel 's (www.sarahteitel.com) Summer Boot Camp show on August 17 at the Six Shooter Gallery (1118 Queen East, 416-465-2459), you still have until August 31 to browse and buy from her collection of hand-painted vintage cowboy boots. Teitel highlights embossed western details with bright Pucci-esque colours. Her boot collection features leather and suede styles accented with sky blue, hot pink, gold and gunmetal grey.
The paisley, embossed and metallic wallpaper that drove 1960s and 1970s decor trends is once again in vogue, and stylish homeowners are rummaging through bins of vintage rolls for the perfect accent wall print. Xpace Gallery 's (303 Augusta, 416-849-2864, www.xpace.info) Wall+Paper II exhibit asks local artists to jump the trend and decorate 12-foot-square wall sections with comments on wallpaper. The show runs till September 13, with a reception Saturday (August 26) from 7 to 11 pm.
Style on TV
You can credit Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen 's "bag lady chic" dress code for the slouchier styles arriving on store racks this fall. The forward-thinking fashion fans are muses to some of the world's biggest brands. You can hear the twins talk about their tween-directed mary-kateandashley brand (and check out their outfits) on Citytv 's Cityline on Monday (August 28) at 10 am. And get another Olsen dose (and, hopefully, a costume change) on the same day on MuchMusic 's MuchOnDemand at 5 pm.
