It's Toronto's big design show weekend: the fancy floor displays of Interior Design Show (www.interiordesignshow.com) at the Direct Energy Centre (Exhibition Place, $25, stu $5) and the Gladstone's (1214 Queen West) hotel style love-in Come Up To My Room both run from Friday to Sunday (February 23-25).
The Gladstone event highlights hometown stars who stir the maximal, minimal, kitschy and classic into our cosmopolitan design stew. Look out for projects by interior outfits like Koma Design (www.komadesign.com), MADE (www.madedesign.ca) and Magic Pony (www.magicpony.com), and talents including the hotel's resident artist Bruno Billio. Admission is $6.50, and a $15 weekend pass gives you unlimited access to the exhibit, the opening reception and two symposium sessions, The Next Step lecture (Saturday, 1 to 3 pm) on design biz topics and a discussion on the Canadian Design Resource's (www.canadiandesignresource.ca) online contemporary design museum (Sunday, 1 to 3 pm). The annual LoveDESIGN party starts Saturday at 9 pm, and there is no cover charge.
Harbord Street's favourite little jewellery studio Nanopod (322 Harbord, 647-219-0585) has just released its March workshops schedule. Owner Tosca Teran's upcoming courses include glass fusing, beginning jewellery and ring making. Thursday-evening open studio classes run for six weeks starting March 15 and let students bauble together their own sparkly project using techniques like hollowform fabrication and metal embossing. Prices range from $75 to $275, and you can register online at www.nanopod.tv.
Rethink Breast Cancer's annual Fashion Targets Friday happens this year on May 25, and you have until March 15 to register your workplace for the style-themed fundraiser. Companies collect orders for T-shirts printed with the Rethink logo ($29.95 each), and on Fashion Targets Friday, employees wear their purchases to the office to show off their support. This year's T features the Rethink bullseye in bold blue and silver foil. Log on to www.rethinkbreastcancer.com for more information.
