Common Cloth by night
Common Cloth (www.commoncloth.com) designers Melanie Talbot and Kristina Bozzo closed off Gwynne Avenue for Nuit Blanche September 29 for a pavement-pounding presentation of their spring 2008 collection. Montreal's Famous Lovers serenaded models street-walking in sheer grey jersey separates and graphic floor-length gowns. The line's modern hippy look showed up in high-waisted shorts and winged blouses, but the crowd favourites were a series of oversized pajama-top tunics in crisp linen and black-and-white leaf prints.
Fashion Takes Action
Toronto is having a let's-take-it-outside moment when it comes to staging fashion shows. After Yonge-Dundas Square's Fashion & Design Festival and before L'Oréal Fashion Week at Nathan Phillips Square came fundraiser Fashion Takes Action's grass-topped catwalk at the Brick Works on September 26. Designers including Damzels in This Dress, Farley Chatto and Annie Thompson strutted their wears past local editors and eco nuts. Proceeds from the event were donated to Environmental Defence (www.environmentaldefence.ca).
