The Bata Shoe Museum (327 Bloor West, 416-979-7799, $14, srs $12, stu $8) is known for exploring the aesthetics and social implications of footwear, so don’t expect the new exhibition, Out Of The Box: The Rise Of Sneaker Culture, to be a dumbed-down display of cool kicks. Opening today (Thursday, April 25), it traces 150 years of sneaker history through 120 pairs from the archives of Adidas, Nike, Reebook, Puma and Converse as well as designer pieces by Christian Louboutin, Pierre Hardy, Lanvin and Prada, highlighting how something often perceived as humble and accessible can be anything but. Karim Rashid created the slick space for the show, on until March 30, 2014.
