You really can't go wrong in a place that sells DIY cheese kits. Add a unique mix of handcrafted and vintage items and you have Spruce, the quaint decor shop that moved into 2-4-1 Video's old digs in Cabbagetown last summer.
Enter a world of vintage medicine bottles, porcelain pop can vases and fine art that's just the right mix of nostalgic and trendy. Seriously, the place looks like Pinterest brought to life.
Long-time Cabbagetown residents Kim Alke and Tate Sameshima founded the shop as way to support their creative group of friends and foster local talent. The duo have an eye for things you never knew you wanted but absolutely must have. Look out for their English bulldog, Lily, sleeping the day away as you lose yourself in their treasure trove.
Spruce picks: Ceramics by Montreal artist Hugo Didier. His popular Not Made in China line promotes ecological production and purchasing locally. The owners also love Nicole Tarasick's silk-screened pillows and tote bags with distinctly Canadian themes. She even designed a custom Cabbagetown print just for Spruce.
Look for: I'm obsessed with hand-stamped vintage silverware by Aly Nickerson Spoons that read "Good Morning Beautiful" or "Cereal Killer" - it doesn't get much cuter than that. Local design collective Team Art's cheeky colouring books and Library of Flowers' small-batch fragrances also top my list.
Hours: Monday Friday 11 am to 7 pm, Saturday 11 am to 6 pm, Sunday noon to 5 pm.
