Style Notes for December 5 to 11

Craft city

This year’s City of Craft holiday sale is so big, it’s expanded to three buildings at Queen and Dovercourt this weekend (December 8 and 9). Seventy vendors will fill The Theatre Centre (1087 Queen West), the former Thrush Holmes Empire space (1093 Queen West) and a venue at 1095 Queen West where vendors 15 and under will show off their stuff. Admission is free for the youth space and $2 for the other venues Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm.

The fair at the fort

If you like your holiday shopping as olde tyme-y as possible, slip into your petticoat and head down to Fort York (250 Fort York) this Saturday and Sunday (December 8 and 9) for the new-but-nostalgic Frost Fair. The 18th and 19th century-inspired market features vendors selling their stuff in period costumes from outdoor stalls and booths set up in the fort’s historic buildings. The event runs daily from 10 am to 5 pm.

WORN out

Fashion history fans should make for Type Books (883 Queen West) on Monday where the WORN Fashion Journal team is hosting the launch of Dior, Poiret and Schiaparelli. From 7 pm to 9 pm, author Ilya Parkins will be discussing the book’s themes of femininity and modernity. If that kind of brainy read of the fashion biz is just your style, treat yourself to a holiday WORN subscription ($48) which includes two years and four issues of the indie style rag including the Hair issue, out now.

Sweet deals

Label lovers will dig the designer selection at the REIA sample sale starting today (Wednesday, December 5) at 580 King West. Discounted womenswear, menswear, accessories and gift buys by Acne, Alexander McQueen, Dries Van Noten, Givenchy, Isabel Marant, Lanvin, Rick Owns, Stella McCartney and so many more will be available through Friday (December 7).

Over at the Drake General Store‘s Holiday Warehouse Sale (442 Dufferin), you’ll find salvaged furniture, holiday picks and clothing at up to 70 per cent off until December 16.
