DX re do
On November 16, the Design Exchange (234 Bay, 416-216-2119, dx.org) holds DX Intersection, a blowout bash celebrating creative force Douglas Coupland. The evening also includes music, installations and an auction of reimagined and reinvented Ikea products. Thrush Holmes, MASON, VAWK, Bruce Mau Design and Bruno Billio and others have crafted unique pieces using components from the Swedish housewares retailer. Tickets for the main party starting at 8 pm range from $75 to $175.
Style notes so long (for now)
This is our final Style Notes feature in the paper for 2012 (gift guides are coming, don't you know?!), but you can still catch up on shopping news online at nowtoronto.com every Wednesday starting November 14. Before we go, it's imperative that we put these store launches on your shopping radar for the coming months: Gravity Pope (gravitypope.com) has officially announced its impending debut at Queen and Ossington, while GotStyle (gotstylemenswear.com) and Jacob & Sebastian (jacobandsebastian.com) are both coming very soon to the Distillery District.
Rue Pigalle picks
Speaking of gifts, one shop that should be on every present-hunter's radar this season is jewellery and accessory spot Rue Pigalle (927 Queen West, 647-352-8115, ruepigalle.ca). New arrivals at the Trinity Bellwoods store include Guy de Jean mini-umbrellas with Parisian illustrations on their sleeves, Vincenti printed wool scarves and sculptural Boa silver rings. Shop December 1 and 2 and donate to their Soup Sisters (soupsisters.org) holiday fundraising campaign.
It's Sample Sale weekend at Standard Apparel (87 Wingold). Today (Thursday, November 8) and Friday (November 9), 10 am to 8 pm, and Saturday (November 10), 10 am to 4 pm, handsome buys from Fred Perry, Aigle, Gloverall, Oliver Spencer, Sunspel and Filson will be deep discounted. Cash, credit and debit accepted.
