The week’s news, views and sales

Jewellery jam

We’re in the middle of Toronto’s first month-long International Jewellery Festival (tijf.info), and Friday’s (May 17) Harbourfront Centre Happening offers a great opportunity to ogle lots of baubles. From 5:30 to 11 pm, the space (235 Queens Quay West) hosts eight different exhibitions and the chance to shop for some fine necklaces, earrings, bracelets and brooches at the Centre Shop.

Sample sale snitch

There’s a long lineup of labels up for grabs on the cheap at this weekend’s Wilhelmina (wilhelminasales.com) sample sale. Visit 160 Tycos, unit 2217, today through Saturday (May 16 to 18) for budget-friendlier finds from RVCA, Lifetime Collective, Roxy Outdoor Fitness, Reef Swimwear, Goorin Hats, Hex Bags and more.

Dundas snaps

Do Photo (dowest.ca), part of Contact – an exhibition of single images in the front windows of 50 shops, restaurants and other venues on Dundas between Bathurst and Grace – is on until May 31. At Comrags (812 Dundas West, 416-360-7249, comrags.com), you’ll spot a 1983 picture of designers Joyce Gunhouse and Judy Cornish’s first fashion collaboration for a show at punk spot Larry’s Hideaway. Other participating businesses include Ride Away Bikes (778 Dundas West), Hide (789 Dundas West) and Sweet Woodruff (889 Dundas West).

Flea call

The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen West, 416-531-4635, gladstonehotel.com) has put out a call for vendors for its new monthly flea market. If you sell art, vintage, craft, jewellery, clothing or other covetable indie wares, submit a few photos of your stuff and company details to gladstoneflea@gmail.com. Tables for each of the events on June 8, July 6 and August 3 are $50, and participants are selected by a series of style-smart jurists including IWantIGot’s Anita Clarke, She Does The City’s Jen McNeely and yours truly.
