TIFF detox

With just three days of screenings left to go (and the party scene seriously decelerating), film industry insiders are finally free to think ahead to life after the festival.

We asked some of them to share their post-TIFF plans:

“I’m planning a post-TIFF support group for other actors and filmmakers. You get accustomed to all the camera flashes, interview requests and the free stuff. The week after the festival, you can’t understand why a barista is asking you for five bucks, instead of congratulating you on your movie. It will be a difficult time for us.”

-Jonas Chernick, writer, producer and actor, My Awkward Sexual Adventure

“As the mother of this movie, I don’t recover. Ever. Right after TIFF, I travel nonstop to other festivals and cities promoting it and going to theatres to do Q and As. To be honest, I still haven’t recovered from Cairo Time.

-Ruba Nadda, director, Inescapable

“After TIFF, Deepa (Mehta) and I will be heading off to our farm for a few days where we can immerse our hands in the soil and reconnect with some semblance of reality.”

-David Hamilton, producer, Midnight’s Children

“This is the first time I did TIFF as a filmmaker with a film in the festival as opposed to just a film and party-goer. I’ll be organizing the business cards I collected in my pockets and spending as much time with my daughter as possible catching up on her nightly bedtime stories. I’ve missed a whole whack of them.

-Matt Sadowski, director, The Tape

“I’m heading straight to Europe to work so no recovery time for me. Although I might have a glass of wine or seven on the plane.”

-Charlie Carrick, TIFF rising star
