Heather Schibli

Rating: NNNNN

WHO: Heather Schibli designer of the Passenger Pigeon clothing line

WHERE: College and Dovercourt

WHEN: Sunday afternoon

clothing: “My sunglasses are from Australia. I got the earrings at the One Of A Kind show – they were a trade. You can get them at www.cinellimaillet.com. The shirt jacket is by Debbie at Snoflake (www.snoflakefashion.com). It’s another trade I made at the DUDE show. The watch on my right wrist is by local designer Kate of Who Loves Dares (www.wholovesdares.com) – it was $64. On my other wrist I have another watch that I got at Value Village (1319 Bloor West, 416-539-0585, and others) for $9. I made my dress as part of my spring/summer 06 collection. You can get one for $164. It’s a hand-printed hemp/cotton blend wrap dress. Totally eco-friendly! You can check out some of my other designs at www.passengerpigeon.ca. My jeans were $200. They’re by Loomstate and made of organic cotton. I got them at Delphic (706 Queen West, 416-603-3334). I got my shoes on sale in New York City. They’re made by Terra Plana and are eco-friendly because the soles are natural rubber. My purse is another trade – that’s one of the perks of being a designer. It’s green, too, because Jack & Marjorie purses are made of reused materials. It costs $160. Check out www.jackandmarjorie. com if you wanna see more of their stuff.”

MY STYLE: “Covertly enviro-friendly.”

HAIR: “I cut my own.”

INTO: “Volunteering with FLAP (the Fatal Light Awareness Program, www.flap.org). My roomate Mary and I collect injured birds and bring them to the Toronto Wildlife Centre to get rehabilitated Tim Flannery (author of The Weather Makers), who’s talking at OISE (252 Bloor West) tonight (Thursday, April 20, 7 pm, see book review and Readings, page 78) being a member of the Royal Society of Adventurology, which happens to be organizing the Orphaned Object Safari at the bandstand in Trinity-Bellwoods Park on Saturday (April 22) at 2 pm (www.adventurology.ca). It’s a fun garbage-picking Earth Day event. We’re providing tools like garbage pokers and fancy gloves.”
