I MISS YOU, 63 Ossington, 416-916-7021 Rating: NNNNN
The 80s are back (again), but don't be so quick to pull up those leg warmers, ladies. Fall 2006's take on the era of excess is way more polish than bubble-gum-chewing spit. Julie Yoo's new I Miss You shop specializes in glam gowns, separates, shoes and accessories from the last days of disco, and keeps things classy by favouring slouchy styles over boxy cuts and reserving the Dynasty references for a piece's primary colour palette.
Yoo's must-have vintage picks for the season include knee-high boots, a wide cincher belt and a three-quarter sleeve jacket that slicks up saggy tunics with its structured 60s silhouette.
But if you couldn't care less for trends, I Miss You packs great classic finds (navy sweaters embroidered with pompom cherries; a half-moon-shaped patent red purse) and designer discoveries (scavenge for finds sporting Courrèges, Hermès and Gucci tags) that deliver a chic, fad-free look.
I Miss You picks: A pair of 70s woven suede emerald-green boots are retro-rific, $125; layer those early-season black buys with a sheer purple-and-silver-striped floral dress, $49; hold on tight to a pastel psychedelic-print Emilio Pucci clutch, $575.
Look for: Chunky, wrap-style knit sweaters and a beefed-up coat rack to cozy you through the cold months.
Hours: Wednesday to Sunday noon to 7 pm.
