Playwright Morwyn Brebner isn't sure if she'll be home from New York this year for her usual blitz of holiday shopping and cooking. Whenever she does return, she'd be happy to accept any or all of the following.
What's the best gift you've ever received?
When I was 18, my brother Adam tracked down a copy of Morwyn: Or The Vengeance Of God ($41.95, by special order, chapters.indigo.ca) by John Cowper Powys. I'm named after the book. Later I lost it to basement mould, which broke my heart.
What's the best gift you've ever given?
A scarf I made my nephew. It was white with blue squids knit into the ends. I taught myself intarsia from a book (Knitting School: A Complete Course, $29.95, Romni Wool, 658 Queen West, 416-703-0202) and made my own pattern. Now I have no idea how I did it. It was a one-off.
What's on your list this year?
I'd like passes to Lotus Yoga Centre ($120/10 classes, 100 Harbord, 416-929-4428). It's Kundalini yoga, which is so crazy and strange but weirdly relaxing. Or a cute Comme des Garçons wallet (two-sided zip wallet with cardholder, $105 to $145, Nomad, 431 Richmond West, 416-682-1107).
