WHO: Janet T. Planet, designer/mechanical engineer
WHERE: Outside the Nestle Chocolate Factory, where she’s a mechanical engineer when not dreaming up sly clothes and accessories. She’s showing her second collection today (Thursday, October 17) as part of Toronto Fashion Week.
CLOTHING: “My glasses are from Josephson Opticians (60 Bloor West, 416-964-7070, and others) and were $330. I have three eyebrow piercings that were done by Gentle Ben from New Tribe (232 Queen West, 416-977-2786), and my earrings are just my body piercing hoops. All the clothes are by me (call 1-866-611-9611 for stores). This shirt is a digitally printed silk based on a steel pipe landscape. My skirt is two-tone leather with a silk lining. My belt is embroidered leather, my tights are by Dim and I got my Bebe boots at Town Shoes (131 Bloor West, 416-928-5062, and others) for $375.”
HAIR: “Nicole at Coupe Bizzarre (704 Queen West, 416-504-0783).”
FASHION STATEMENT AT THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY: “Generally you put a lab coat over everything, but I always have some sort of quirky something-or-other on that makes people at work go, ‘What’s that?!'”
CHOCOLATES EFFECT ON YOUR LINE: “Frequent. I’m seriously addicted. I seem to be using these really dark, rich brown colours, so maybe that’s secretly where it’s coming from.”
OUTFIT PLANS FOR YOUR SHOW: “I still haven’t made them yet. My outfit is always the last one it’s kind of an extra motivator. If I don’t get everything else done, I’m stuck wearing some old thing with holes in it. That happened last time. Don’t tell anybody.”
