CLOTHING: “My boots were spray-painted chrome for my upcoming Disco Dyke Diva show. I bought them at Siren (463 Queen West, 416-504-9288) for $80 a few years ago. My fishnets and garter belt are from a discount lingerie shop on Queen in Parkdale. The fishnets were $5 and the garter $10. My skirt is actually a PVC dress that I hiked up under my top. I bought it at Northbound Leather (586 Yonge, 416-972-1037) for $60. This leopard print tube top is from Thrift Town (1473 Queen West, 416-537-9673) and cost $5. Some of my bracelets were given to me and some I dug out of my big box of old jewellery. My friends call me a shit hawk. It means that I pick up whatever from wherever. I bought my big oval silver ring from one of the vendor carts on Queen West near the old Bamboo. I bargained for it and paid $40. The other ring was an old thing from one of my old roommates about five years ago. I found this silver choker necklace at Ardene (Eaton Centre, lower level, 416-408-0665, and others) and paid about $10 for it. I bought the longer silver chain for $1 at A Buck Or Two (2300 Yonge, 416-481-9868, and others) for a pimp daddy costume I was putting together. My earrings were 50 cents from a thrift store in Pembroke. Oh yeah, my sunglasses. I got them from a store in Kensington Market. They were $10.”
HAIR: “I cut my own hair. The little tiger stripe I have is something I did myself. I bought the bleach from New You (1526 Dundas West, 416-533-4446), which is a West Indian shop that sells colour for hard-to-bleach hair.”
MY STYLE: “Foxy Moxie femme diva.”
INTO: “Weird body-image stuff like painted and photo self-portraits making music with HerAgainn and the Disco Dyke Divas. You can hear the Divas Friday (February 13) at Lula Lounge (1585 Dundas West, 416-588-0307). It’s going to be packed, so get there early.”
