John Beales’ Style

Rating: NNNNN

WHO: John Beales, freelance photographer

WHERE: In front of Queen West Community Health Centre (168 Bathurst)

WHEN: Sunday, 4 pm

CLOTHING: “When I first moved to Toronto to start my freelance photography business, my equipment broke down and I fell into life on the street. That’s where I got these running shoes. I think my socks are from some place in Elliott Lake. This Marilyn Manson T-shirt was $29.99 at an independent record shop that went out of business in Elliott Lake. I made these shorts by cutting off a pair of pants that I bought at Stitches (239 Yonge, 416-368-2410, and others) for $19.99. I borrowed the jacket from a friend. These lovely studded wristbands are also loaners. One’s black leather and the other’s pink with the word Princess on it. I wear mostly Hanes underwear. The skivvies I’m wearing now came from some shop in Elliott Lake about four years ago.”

HAIR: “I’m self-shorn.”

MY STYLE: “I guess it’s about learning and imagination.”

INTO: “Mountain biking, hackey sack, frisbee and just hanging around. I also dig photographers Al Gilbert and Russ Powell.”
