JONATHAN + OLIVIA 49 Ossington, 416-849-5956, jonathanandolivia.com
After three years operating her Jonathan + Olivia boutique in Vancouver, Jackie O'Brien has opened up a sibling store on Ossington in Toronto. The double-wide storefront stocks a sophisticated mix of men's and women's labels like Engineered Garments, YMC and Zero + Maria Cornejo on whitewashed racks and foundry carts lined up on a loft-style concrete floor.
The store's hottest find is New Yorker Alexander Wang, a baby-faced downtown designer who channels the sexed-up spirit of his legendarily air-conditioning-less fashion show after-parties in sweat-printed tanks and grungy dresses. Paris label Surface 2 Air collaborates with Justice on black leather bombers inset with knit navy blue ribbing.
The it label list continues with Oliver Spencer, Rag & Bone, Acne, Opening Ceremony, Mike & Chris and Preen, whose black shrug weighed down with a sewing kit's worth of mismatched buttons is simultaneously chic and cheek.
