Karen Chapelle

WHO: Lucky 7 Steel (lucky7steel.com)

[rssbreak]

SIGNATURE PRODUCT: We know Lucky 7 Steel’s Karen Chapelle a bit better than most of our designer profilees. In 2007, the former NOW photo coordinator said so long to her neighbouring cubicle and hello to her Queen West metal fabricating studio, where she creates her tree series, forged sculptural pieces that recreate organic forms in steel.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: “I like that everything I make comes from something recycled and can go back into being recycled,” says Chapelle about the wonders of working in metal. Though pieces are decorative, she also sees them as making a statement on the disappearing natural landscape.

NEW WORKS: For the holiday season’s One Of A Kind Show (oneofakindshow.com), Chapelle is using leftover steel found around the studio to create a collection of push toys she’ll be selling from December 1 to 6.

WHERE TO BUY IT: Metal tree sculptures range from $80 to $200, available at Artists Walk at Village Square (422 Pearl, Burlington) or by emailing info@lucky7steel.com.
