WHO: Melinda Mattos, co-editor and co-publisher of Shameless magazine
WHERE: The Pine Coin Laundry (1050 Bathurst)
WHEN: Thursday, 7 pm
CLOTHING: “I found this shirt for $3.99 at a Value Village in Guelph when my gentleman friend Andrew took me on a thrift store road trip. My brown polyester pants belonged to my high school sweetheart’s father back in the 70s, when he smoked instead of eating. The evidence is a tiny cigarette burn on the right thigh. I got these shoes from LBSH Shoe World (657 Yonge, 416-924-3405), on sale for $20. My glasses were $325 at Specs & Specs (311A Queen West, 416-979-3937). My custom handbag was a birthday gift from My Old Pants purse designer Andrew Sardone (www.myoldpants.com). My mom gave me this kiddie Timex watch, and I swiped this wristband from my roommate Jes. My twisted metal ring was a token of affection from Billy Ray Cyrus, made by a vendor on Queen West. I got this fused-glass necklace at the Signatures Craft Show (www.signatures. ca) for $12 from artist Randy Miller. My striped Shameless button was designed by Jason Paré and sells for $1 at all our events.”
HAIR: “The cut is by Sue at Xtraordinaire (722 Queen West, 416-504-1814). My roommate Jes keeps my pink ‘n’ black hair its pinkest ‘n’ blackest.”
MY STYLE: “Unpaid publisher chic or 70s cafeteria worker. I haven’t decided yet.”
INTO: “Working on Shameless, a progressive magazine for teen girls, with my co-conspirator, Nicole Cohen. We’re having a big launch party Saturday (June 5) at the 360 (326 Queen West, 416-593-0840), featuring teen comics Mae Martin and Sabrina Jalees, DJs Tyler Clark Burke and the Abominable Dr. Vibes, the Squad 416 radical cheerleaders and more. Doors open at 8:30 pm and admission is a mere $5, which includes a copy of the mag. For details, check out www.shamelessmag.com.”
