Runway review: Jules Power

I obviously LOVED Jules Power’s first collection and my appreciation of Tuesday afternoon’s spring show exceeded that original affection. Power built on last season’s standout knit pieces and bohemian vibe with an earthier colour palette, bold prints and layers of entirely useful clothing.

Many fashion pundits like to write about designers who create clothes we actually wear from the underwhelmed perspective of, “you don’t go to X for trends or direction but that’s a good thing” as if building a sellable brand doesn’t take a clear understanding of the market and a design vision focused forward. If anything, someone like Powers’ ability to temper the haute expectations of fashion insiders and turn them on with a perfect pair of sweatpants is something to get more excited about.

As for those now-signature knits, spring’s offerings included short sleeve Ts, cuffed shorts and cropped leggings. Powers paired them with a-line minis wrapped in light ruffles, printed bustiers and open weave tanks, all pieces you can bank on seeing again and again in our style pages come spring.
