Whenever a new name pops up on the fashion week schedule, there’s always a small part of me that worries we’re in for feathers, baubles and enough textile options to fill a Fabricland.
In other words, focus from a designer usually takes time so kudos to Vancouver and New York-based designer Angela Chen for presenting such a clear vision from her first exit on.
That initial look, a white silk organza top and a black wool skirt that swagged across the model’s hips, perfectly distilled Chen’s sense of simplicity and femininity. The polished, easy-going vibe and the asymmetrical silhouette continued in wool coats with slim tuxedo lapels, tailored trousers and a great, understated cape.
Chen ended the show with evening options, mainly hand knit dresses in black and silver, some covered in sparse, shimmering sequins. I should probably leave room for improvement but I’m giving this one a perfect 10.
