Mendocino's twice-yearly warehouse sales are legendary clearance blow-outs, with tons of still-in-fashion styles (this time around the stock is from fall/winter 2000) priced to vanish. This spring's sale runs today (Thursday, April 19) through Saturday (April 21), with nothing (except new stock and some coats) priced over $95 -- and there's lots of cool gear starting at $10, including T-shirts from $5. With everything from suiting, wool coats, leathers and suedes priced in this range, it's a not-to-be-missed shopping opportunity. 580 Front West (near Portland). 416-703-3409.
Looking for great deals on outdoors stuff? Do $200 Patagonia gloves for $60 appeal? Join the lineup early Sunday morning (April 22) for Mountain Equipment Co-op's Earth Week Gear Swap, where co-op members have a chance to sell off used equipment and clothing. It's a fundraiser for MEC's environmental endowment fund, and the deal is that members set their prices. From one-fifth to two-thirds of the original retail (depending on condition) is typical, but there are always a couple of virtual giveaways (as well as some bad deals). MEC also uses the sale to retire old rental gear. Twenty per cent of the selling price (100 per cent of the price of items coming direct from MEC) is donated to the fund, and items that aren't sold or picked up by the owners by May 9 get donated to charity. Consignment items can be brought to MEC through Saturday. Doors open at 11 am and the sale runs to 1 pm. 416-340-2667. 400 King West.
