OLD AND NEW
The one-time Old Clothing Show and Sale has ditched its outmoded name -- these days 50 per cent of the value-priced goods up for grabs are brand new duds by very current local designers -- and relaunched as the more streamlined Clothing Show. But the 130 dealers, including vintage mainstays Courage My Love, Stella Luna, Black Market and Rozaneh, are very much the same. The focus on new clothes by trendy labels is stronger than ever, with booths featuring Hoax Couture, 100 Degrees, Damzels in This Dress, Olena Zylak and many more. As always, expect crowds, lineups and unbelievable deals. Sunday (April 29). Doors open at 11 am, but get there early (or show up late and haggle -- the show ends at 6 pm). Admission is $7, $4 for seniors. Take your grandma. CNE Automotive Building, 416-657-2156, www.oldclothingshow.com.
Jewellery wholesaler Redhead holds a blowout spring sample sale Saturday (April 28) at Ted's Wrecking Yard. Prices run as low as $5 for costume and sterling silver pieces, some with antique crystals, semi-precious stones and pearls, so it's an amazing opportunity to expand your jewellery collection and stock up on gifts. The show runs from 1 to 5 pm.
The Yachad branch of the National Council of Jewish Women Toronto Section holds a fundraising "closet sale" of clothes, books, shoes, dishes and more. New, trendy items join gently used classics. Sunday (April 29), 9 am to 1 pm. 4700 Bathurst.
