Born to adorn Textile artist and clothing designer Sartaj Kaur puts a fair-trade spin on the import-export business she runs with goods from her native India. By buying direct from artisans and selling direct to local retailers -- including the Museum for Textiles and the Toronto Women's Bookstore -- her company, Kinna Sohna, pays the women's cooperatives and master craftspeople who create her goods a fair price while still being able to offer great value to Canadian customers. Kaur is clearing space for a new shipment with a warehouse sale that is not to be missed. Some of the deals include unusual silver toe rings for $10, stunning cushion covers from $12 to $65, and $125 for handwoven silk shawls that normally retail for $400. Tomorrow (Friday, May 11) from 6 to 9 pm, Saturday and Sunday (May 12 and 13) noon to 6 pm. 527 Queen East, 2nd floor. 416-203-0332.
Body Body Wear opens its largest-ever flagship store Saturday (May 12) with some sizzling door prizes -- not to mention dancers from 5 serving Perrier and administering temp tattoos while wearing BBW underwear. A live DJ is spinning in the store window, and buff BBW supermodel Lance is flying in from San Juan to flex his muscles and sign autographs. The location is -- where else? -- right in the heart of the Village, at 500 Church.
