We've never seen better prices on prescription glasses than the two-for-$99 (complete, not just frames, and including some designer frames) that Honest Ed's Optical Depot is offering through mid-June. Right now they've also got Ray Bans for $99 a pair, if what you want are high-end shades. It's a quarterly promotion that proprietor Mark Anker is able to bring in by buying close-out stock 300 pairs at a time. The deal is that you choose six styles you like on your face, and Anker figures out which from that group he can offer for the price. Lines available include Calvin Klein, Modo and Benetton. People with really strong prescriptions (you know who you are) will need to pay a little more. 581 Bathurst. 416-531-7757.
Toronto-based accessories line Pleasant Pheasant is selling off the spring/summer 2001 samples (mostly hats) their sales reps have been showing stores across North America. Now they're clearing warehouse space by selling off the samples for half the regular retail price. The catch? You need to get there during regular Monday-to-Friday, 9-to-5 business hours, through Friday (June 8). 401 Richmond West. 416-599-5408.
Every June, the 50 home furnishings companies that rent showroom space at Designers Walk get together for a sidewalk clearance sale that's a highlight of many interior designers' shopping calendars. Floor models, ends of lines, lighting fixtures and upholstery yardage -- all at seriously reduced prices. If you need it, the Saturday (June 9) sale is the first place to look -- and if you've got a car, consider clearing out the trunk. Many of these places don't sell to the public on any other day, so it's a good opportunity to see where the pros go. 160 Pears. 416-961-1121 ext 234.
