We’re really sad to see Hot Property (1024 Dupont) scaling back business due to a decrease in movie prop rentals (thank you, SARS, West Nile and our strengthening dollar). But we’re happy as hell to score unbelievable items from a 20-year-old collection that includes fine mid-century and Bauhaus furniture, all kinds of antique props and everything in between. Fashionistas are rejoicing. Kiehl’s (407 Queen West) has just opened its first free-standing Toronto boutique. Its products for face, hair and body don’t exactly go for drugstore prices, but they are top quality, and the staff won’t push stuff on you. They give samples, but don’t just snap up the swag, you greedy thing. This is a company that doesn’t advertise and chooses instead to put money into product development and charities.
