Little Italy's Teatro restaurant (505 College, 416-972-1475) is where local fashion and film industry models, actors, model/actors, photographers, directors and PR flacks gather for post-shoot glasses of Prosecco and a ruckus. Between bubbles and bar-top dancing, the creative community has collaborated on a charity calendar featuring Teatro's staff in sexy high-fashion photos. Pick up your copy at the restaurant for $40. All proceeds benefit Breakfast for Learning (www.breakfastforlearning.ca).
Fashion File host Tim Blanks is moving on, and the show's producers are launching a Fashion File Host Hunt TV series that has 10 wannabe style journalists duking it out for one of the industry's sweetest spots. It irks us that you can't apply for a job any more without going through the reality-TV wringer, but if you're cool with playing the fool in the name of fashion, the Toronto auditions happen October 10 to 12 at the CBC (250 Front West). Log onto www.fashionfile.com/hostHunt. html for details.
One of BC fashion's biggest exports is the John Fluevog (www.fluevog.com) line of top-quality retro and mod men's and women's footwear. This fall, the collection expands into bags that combine glossy, embossed and rugged leather finishes with utilitarian and sculptural shapes. The Modvog bag ($229) is a circular leather envelope with a cut-out handle, while the Fraser book bag ($425) adds front buckle pockets to a vertical messenger style. Available at John Fluevog, 242 Queen West. 416-581-1420.
Whether you're of the ceramic persuasion or more into glassware, next week's 10th annual Pottery and Glass Sale can help with your tableware needs. From October 11 to 14, 85 artists from Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia abandon their kilns to hawk dinner plates and glasses, jewellery, tile pieces and sculpture in the CBC's Barbara Frum Atrium (250 Front West). Admission is free, and a portion of sales supports Fusion Ontario Clay and Glass Association. www.potteryandglasssale.com.
