Doggie day spa
Now that our first dump of snow has slushed into grey sidewalk goop, your pooch's paws and overgrown winter coat are looking ruff and ragged. Harbord pet shop Little Chloe's Chic Boutique (128 Harbord, 416-923-7297, www.chicboutique.ca) has hired star dog stylist Christi Farley to help groom your little guy or girl back to poochy perfection. First-time visitors to the spa get 15 per cent off all services. Farley is in high demand, so you'd be smart to book well in advance.
New Annex accessory studio Asiallery (1069 Bathurst, 416-616-5431, www.asiallery.com) holds a pearl sale, running to Sunday (January 28). Pearl earrings and necktie-style necklaces featuring the opalescent orbs in natural, green and blue tones are discounted by 40 per cent. While you're jewellery shopping, check out glass and stone baubles, colourful straw thong slippers and woven buntal palm-fibre totes, clutches and handbags created by a cooperative in the Philippines.
Bookish Monkey's Paw (1229 Dundas West, 416-531-2123) owner Stephen Fowler has launched a regular electronic micro-catalogue for members of the shop's mailing list. Each edition features thematically linked volumes and ephemera from his curious store stock. The first list featured sample books (product catalogues) and included descriptions of titles like American Fabrics, Kivar No. 5 plastic coatings and R.O.P. Newspaper Colour Ink Book. Send your e-mail address to firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the mailers.
