June wedding season is coming up fast, and if you don't want to out-bridezilla the woman of the hour with your own last-minute party dress hunt, stop by Girl Friday (776 College, 416-531-1036; and 740 Queen West, 416-364-2511, www.girlfridayclothing. com). Spring stock includes a ton of flirty, dressy looks like the strapless Parker style ($140) cut from reception-pig-out-friendly cotton/spandex, the Shannon ($120) in stretch sateen and the sweet Karen ($125) with a contrasting empire-waist sash.
In the swanky world of designer footwear, no one does high fashion at a relatively smart price like Canada's own John Fluevog. The spring collection includes chic kicks like Ambleside slip-ons and lace-ups ($205) in perforated leather with contrasting toe stitching, rockabilly open-toe Mini Puddin's ($235) with chunky hourglass heels and brogue details, and Fluevog Mett sport loafers ($165) with rainbow-coloured side gore elastic. Pick up a pair at Fluevog 's Toronto shop (242 Queen West, 416-581-1420, www.fluevog.com).
Wherever there's an Italian, there's a good pair of shoes (trust me), so you can bet Little Italy's Balisi footwear shop (668 College, 416-532-1074, www.balisi.com) is loaded with terrific styles. Next Thursday, April 19, the store will be showing off spring and summer pairs and previewing fall/winter collections from brands like Fly London , Bos & Co. and Naughty Monkey at its Killer Style For A Killer Cause event at Revival (783 College). Tickets are $20, with proceeds benefiting the Canadian Cancer Society .
Expert crafters gather Saturday, April 21, for the Good Catch Craft Fair 's April Showers event. Artists including Kim Kutner , Laura Curley , Pilot , Sweetie Pie Press , Vintage Love , Emma Segal , Swandive and Coldsnap Bindery will be selling their stuff between noon and 5 pm at the Good Catch General Store (1556 Queen West). For more info, log on to www.goodcatch.ca/aprilshowers.html. We haven't visited this shop yet, but apparently it's pirate-themed, and there's nothing wrong with that.
