The Interior Design Show has partnered with Come Up To My Room (comeuptomyroom.com), Radiant Dark (madedesign.ca/radiantdark) and a long list of other design exhibitions to launch the city’s first International Design Festival (tidfonline.com) from January 19 to 24. We’ll definitely be adding the Gardiner Museum’s (111 Queen’s Park, 416-586-8080, gardinermuseum.on.ca) Cut/Copy/Paste ceramic show and Motherbrand’s (motherbrand.com) Creative Reuse in Canadian Design exhibit in the Royal Ontario Museum’s (100 Queen’s Park, 416-586-5549, rom.on.ca) Institute for Contemporary Culture gallery to our usual Design Week rounds.
Manicures and manscaping from the 10 Spot aren’t just for Queen Westers any more. The beauty bar has opened a second location in Leslieville (1402 Queen East, unit D1, 416-915-1010). To celebrate the expansion, they’re offering a Bring A Friend special with free polish changes for buddies who partner up on pedicures. Book your appointment online at the10spot.com.
If you’re intent on wearing Canadian right down to your freezing winter toes, slip into Roots’ (220 Yonge, 416-598-8560, and others, canada.roots.com) new winter boots. The insulated lace-ups are made in Quebec by eco-friendly boot manufacturer Kamik from black or tan leather with a shearling collar and a hearty rubber sole. They’re a bit of a splurge at $218, but we see that as a smart investment in keeping your feet cozy through this season and many more.
Windfall, Canada’s only new-clothing bank, launched its annual Wear White 4 Windfall fundraising campaign (ww4w.ca) this week. Help the cause by picking up a WW4W silver charm at Daniel Espinosa (21 Avenue, 416-323-9127), a limited-edition T-shirt at Franco Mirabelli (456 Eglinton West, 416-322-3130) or by wearing white and making a $4 donation at any Alterna location (alterna.ca) on Wear White 4 Windfall day, January 28.
