The week’s news, views and sales

DX bests

What are your top Canadian buildings, graphics and products? That’s what the Design Exchange (234 Bay, 416-363-6121, dx.org) asked a group of architects and designers for its new Playing Favourites exhibition, on until June 25. Work by Guy Maddin, Castor Design, Jeremy Laing, Clairtone Corporation and more all made the cut. And while we’re talking DX, save June 20 for the opening of the blockbuster Christian Louboutin shoe show.

Bridal to be

Anyone who’s “accidentally” watched a Sunday-afternoon marathon of hit TLC wedding gown shopping show Say Yes To The Dress will be interested to hear that the New York City-based bridal salon that’s the setting for the series, Kleinfeld, will be opening at Toronto’s flagship Hudson’s Bay store (176 Yonge, thebay.com) in early 2014. Now you can dress shop and add towel sets and stand mixers to your registry in one stop.

Tanenbaum trunk show

If you read the clothing credits of Toronto fashion glossies closely, you’ll often see the name Carole Tanenbaum. The costume jewellery collector is a stylist fave for the cache of statement baubles she sells through her online store (caroletanenbaum.com) and select boutiques. On Wednesday and Thursday (April 10 and 11), you’ll also find pieces from her Chanel stash at Josephson Opticians (60 Bloor West, 416-964-7070, josephson.ca) at a trunk show from 10 am to 8 pm.

FAT fixin’

Fashion Art Toronto’s 2013 edition is just a few weeks away. From April 23 to 27, designers, artists and musicians host runway shows, installations, photo exhibits and performances at 213 Sterling. Advance tickets range from $30 for a day pass to $80 for a full week, through fashionarttoronto.ca.
