This summer’s best active stuff

Looking to get your sweat on this summer? We bike-riding pinkos are partial to pedalling through the great outdoors on our many trails (toronto.ca/cycling/map).

But Toronto is also defined by its proximity to water, and not just the frozen hockey kind. Into fishing? Check out Rouge Beach (rougepark.com). How about a little sailing or windsurfing in the outer harbour?

Volleyball? The best pickup games are at Woodbine Beach. There’s clean lake water for a swim, too. But if sand isn’t your thing, try a dip at historic Sunnyside Pavilion (sunnysidepavilion.com) or Christie Pits. Other ways to be cool: shooting hoops at Underpass Park. Swish.

If kickin’ it old-school is more your speed, there’s soccer at the Cherry Beach playing fields. And for those into green, there’s baseball in Leaside (leasidebaseballcamp.com), Toronto’s mecca for stickball.

Prefer tea to Gatorade for your sporting pursuits? Eglinton Flats (Eglinton and Black Creek) has cricket pitches. For the tennis and bocce set, the city’s website (toronto.ca/parks/prd/sports/index.htm) has all the info you need to get active. We’re not going to suggest golf, unless it’s of the Frisbee variety. For that, you’ll have to trek to the Islands.

Take a bike and have fun.
