Canada’s largest annual exhibition of handmade products by local and artisans from abroad kicks off today and runs until March 27 at Enercare Centre. The One of a Kind spring show features more than 450 makers this year, including 105 new artisans. Whether you’re in the market for home decor, clothing, jewellery, beauty products or something to munch on, shoppers will have plenty to choose from.
New Booths not to be missed include: local Toronto maker Your Pal Al for her handmade concrete home decor. Edmonton, Alberta’s Plantiful will be selling their all-natural skincare line, made from fair-trade, healing power plants. 3rd Floor Studio sells easy to wear beautiful floral, spring dresses. Handmade locally and ethically. Alexia Bilyk pouches and containers, are made of silk-screened washable paper, and make for a unique planter. Last but certainly not least, gourmet freezies from The Pop Stand include flavours like tart cherry shandy – perfect for when feelings of being overwhelmed by the number of booths starts to seep in.
Some of Toronto’s favourite makers are back this year as well, like Bookhou‘s natural handmade small production pieces, who make a variety of works from fashion-forward bags to cushions, napkins, small storage and other home decor. Biko Jewellery has high-quality, vintage inspired, versatile pieces of jewellery, created with mixed metals, hand-cast pendants & natural stones. Coach House Shortbread melt in your mouth, sweet and savoury shortbread. If you love Pop Culture, celebrities, and internet trends – stop by The Crazy Plate Lady’s exhibit, for hand painted, brilliantly themed plates. Crush Works one of a kind prints, bags and scarves as well as super soft, vibrantly coloured leather cushions. Designer La Jolee transforms her originally playful illustrations into hand-painted watercolours.
Gorgeous works from non-Torontonians are must-sees too. From Quebec City, Craft Collective will exhibit modern household products, designed and created out of wood. Montrealers Belle Mine will have a plethora of iron-on fabric patches, perfect for sprucing up your trusty jean jacket (that is anxiously awaiting spring). Décadisme will debut their collection vintage of flea market finds. For the eco-minded parents shopping for toddler and baby clothes, hit up Catherine Saucy visiting from Laval, Quebec for organic and naturally dyed cotton goods.
