THE HIDEOUT

THE HIDEOUT 484 Queen West, 416-910-2015 Rating: NNNNN

VIBE This brand new rock ‘n’ roll bar and restaurant at the corner of Queen and Denison quite often features bands or DJs, most playing rock music. Head to the back of the bar and you’ll find a room that looks more like a restaurant, with a private booth in the back. There’s another small room for the lone pool table.

VALUE Depending on who’s playing, there could be a small cover. An imported bottle of beer is $5, less than at most of the bar’s neighbours.

PAST LIVES This spot has gone through many incarnations in the past few years, including stints as Modesto, Butler’s Pantry, Big Papa’s Bordello and a very short run as an Irish pub. The current owners are much more interested in it as a live music venue, while still operating it as a restaurant during the day.

GET OUTSIDE The large licensed patio at Denison and Queen should have made it a gold mine for its previous owners but somehow didn’t. Maybe the rock ‘n’ roll crowd will make good use of the prime people-watching position come summer.
