Since Jeff and Nuit Regular’s stylish Thai trat first introduced a separate vegan lineup alongside their regular carte six months ago, the results have proven just as explosive, if not more so, than the Regulars’ regular fare.

We’re no stranger to spicy grub, but the first mouthful of Nuit’s incendiary Sam Roas ($15) pad thai – her basic-model street-style noodles ($14) intensified with crushed peanuts, Thai coriander, fresh lime juice and a whole whack o’ chilies – has us scrambling for the nearest fire extinguisher. Not everything’s five-alarm. Cubes of deep-fried tofu ($9) come deliciously dusted with garlic, while chef’s inspired spin on creamy khao soi noodles ($13) can range from mellow to meltdown, depending on how hot you order them.

Nuit is also involved with the creation of the menu for the imminent Sabai Sabai at Church and Dundas. Can we expect any vegetarian dishes?

“Quite a lot, actually,” she smiles.

The gang in the NOW office down the block are salivating as we speak.

Monday to Saturday for lunch 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, dinner 5 to 10 pm. Closed Sunday, some holidays. Licensed. Access: five steps at door, washrooms on same floor.
