LIKELY GENERAL 389 Roncesvalles, 647-351-4590, likelygeneral.com
Roncey’s newest shopping op is Brooke Manning’s delightful new lifestyle boutique Likely General. And delightful really is the only way to describe the bright, airy space and its collection of housewares, apothecary buys, art multiples, stationery and snacks merchandised like a modern mercantile store.
Manning’s “bit of everything” approach to stocking means Pollen Arts beeswax candles moulded into the shapes of vintage bottles share shelf space with all-natural Juniper Ridge incense sticks and handmade ceramics. Next to a retro red Frigidaire full of Northwood cold-brew coffee and Philips ice pops (and across from a table of piggyhatespanda plush dolls with felt coifs) hang poster art and prints by local artists.
A magazine wall features not-your-usual newsstand titles like Worn and Kinfolk, while glass jars on the cash counter overflow with champagne- and salted caramel-flavoured lollipops.
Likely General picks: Manning’s favourite Juniper Ridge incense scent is sweetgrass, $12 a W+P cocktail kit in a canvas doctor’s bag has glassware, tools and other travelling mixologist must-haves, $295 Ontario magazine is actually named after Ontario, Japan, and published in New York, $22.
Look for: In-store workshops starting with a bookbinding class taught by Nightjar Books’ Amy Egerdeen (nightjarbooks.com) on August 28.
Hours: Tuesday to Friday 11 am to 7 pm, Saturday 11 am to 8 pm, Sunday noon to 6 pm.
