Lovers & Fighters: Episode 2

Istvan Kantor and his irrepressible spirit hatch a plan to seek political asylum in China under Ai Weiwei's sponsorship

In Episode 2 of Lovers & Fighters, meet Istvan Kantor, who immigrated to Canada from his native Hungary in the 1970s.

Famous for his Blood Campaign work where he used his own blood on the canvas, Kantor doesn’t feel free to be the ‘submerging artist’ he wants to be. He hatches a plan to seek political asylum in China under artist Ai Weiwei’s sponsorship.

A spry 65-year-old rebel with a cause, he’s dedicated his life to the emancipation of art from cultural institutions like galleries and museums, regardless of the fact that financial security has eluded him. Follow the irrepressible Kantor’s quest to find a home for his no-holds-barred approach to life and art.

Lovers & Fighters profiles a group of remarkable artists and creators fueled by what the legendary artist Christo called “the unstoppable urge” to manifest their wild and ambitious vision. Watch Episode 1 here.
