Carla Gillis

Copy Editor

A fierce supporter of indie music and culture, Carla Gillis began working at NOW as a music writer and copy editor in 2008, shortly after moving to Toronto.

Born in Halifax, she earned an English degree from Dalhousie University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, where she majored in song lyric and non-fiction.

She's worked as NOW's music editor for more than two and a half years, is a Polaris Music Prize and Prism Prize juror, and has played in bands since her teens, including Plumtree, who wrote the song Scott Pilgrim that inspired the graphic novel series and movie.

Currently, she plays in Overnight with her drummer sister and The Lord Almightys with other displaced Haligonians.
