Modern jewel

Ruby reds, sapphire blues and amethyst purples are usually reserved for the most retro of fashion moments, but Rita Liefhebber wasn’t thinking throwback when she created her jewel-toned fall clothing collection. Unveiled last March at Jonathan + Olivia on Ossington, her lineup of hand-dyed blouses in rich velvet and silk took the traditionally precious palette in an entirely contemporary direction. Liefhebber’s new approach to gemstone hues inspired this fall beauty look, plus a shopping list of autumn makeup (see page 14) that’s just as classic and fresh.
