A HAUNTING AT SILVER FALLS (Anchor Bay, 2013) D: Brett Donowho, w/ Alix Elizabeth Gitter, James Cavlo. Rating: NNN DVD package: none. Rating: NNN
A Haunting At Silver Falls isn’t wildly scary, but its slightly unusual take on the ghost story gives it a memorable creepiness.
New in a small town that’s been plagued by teen suicides, high school girl Jordan (Alix Elizabeth Gitter) finds a ring in the woods, puts it on and can’t get it off. A couple of days later, a dead girl begins to follow her everywhere, silently demanding something.
The adults are off-kilter. Some are obvious, like the malignant therapist, others more subtle, like Jordan’s incompetent and over-solicitous aunt and uncle (well played by Tara Westwood and Steve Bacic).
Together with the ever-present ghost, they create a strong suggestion of eeriness that reaches its peak during a walk through curiously underpopulated streets.
