Arbor day

The distributor of March’s Doc Soup selection, The Arbor, has requested that it not be reviewed in depth until it begins its commercial run next week.

So I’ll just say that Clio Barnard’s documentary about the artistic and physical legacy of the late playwright Andrea Dunbar – screening Wednesday night (March 2) at the Bloor Cinema – is really, really good, and leave it at that. In fact, the less you know about its story and structure, the better.

There’ll be a more comprehensive review in the March 10 issue of NOW, along with an interview with director Barnard, who’s coming to town for the Doc Soup screenings. The 6:30 pm show is sold out, but tickets can still be had for the 9:15 pm show. I’d suggest you attend.
