I rarely discuss home-video stuff in this column, but I’m going to take a moment to let you know that tomorrow (Saturday) is the very first International Independent Video Store Day.
Created by Toronto’s Dan Hanna, it’s an attempt to call attention to the fact that neighbourhood video shops – like Suspect Video, Queen Video, Bay Street Video and Hanna’s own Eyesore Cinema – are still viable and even relevant in this scary post-Blockbuster era.
So, go on: support your local shop on Saturday by bringing home something you’ve been meaning to see. Hey, Terrence Malick’s outstanding new film The Tree Of Life just came out in an excellent Blu-ray/DVD combo why not start there?
