A Clockwork Orange
This week's column is going up later than usual, due to last night's screening of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and to this morning's breathless drama over Rob Ford's appeal verdict. Also because I've spent a lot of time scouring the city for a movie story that hasn't already been covered in this week's paper.
Well, there's one thing. The Projection Booth Cinemas - the Metro (677 Bloor St. West, near Christie) and the East (1035 Gerrard St. East, near Jones) - announced earlier today that they'll be changing their names to the Big Picture Cinemas as of February 1. The programming will stay as eclectic as always; check the new website for details.
And that's it. Seriously. Except for a couple of screenings of A Clockwork Orange at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema Sunday and Monday, the city's just chugging along as scheduled.
I guess I could say something about the reports that J.J. Abrams will be directing the next Star Wars movie, but I've been so beaten down by that franchise over the last 14 years that I just can't rouse myself to care - honestly, I'm far more interested in his Star Trek sequel after seeing the teaser in front of Hansel & Gretel last night.
Really, I've got nothing. But trust me: next week's movies package is a doozy.
