Collage Collisions: Recent Films by Martha Colburn Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

Pleasure Dome presents Baltimore-bred, Amsterdam-based artist Martha Colburn’s wall of Halloween-y imagery. Colburn’s trend-setting animated films mingle collage with painting with pop culture horror, set to disturbing soundtracks from collaborators including Jad Fair and her own band, the Dramatics. She’s the Wes Craven of experimental filmmakers. In Skelehellavision, loops from 70s porn movies are obscured by images of painted skeletons, spiders and nameless hybrid monsters.

In There’s A Pervert In Our Pool, a sputtering spoken-word outburst by poet Fred Collins accompanies images of pop culture icons from Gary Coleman to Bill Clinton romping bucolically in a swimming pool.

Colburn’s in town all week to teach an animation master class at LIFT (see www.lift.on.ca for details). Friday (October 29) at Cinecycle.
