DARRYLS HARD LIQUOR AND PORN FEST (various directors) Rating: NNN
The 69 Hour Film Challenge that forms the backbone of Darryl’s Hard Liquor And Porn Fest may be the best approach to cinema since the application of 3-D technology to large breasts. Contest rules ensure a lively and at least mildly funny mix of live action and animated movies. The $500 prize helps, too.
Highlights of the fest include:
Sprout This: On Set With Frankie Bombs is an imaginary making-of doc that has a dorky would-be auteur compelled to make an adult movie by his Swedish-speaking mom. Somehow it morphs from a porno Treasure Island into “Shake Glans With The Devil.”
In Boys Night Out, a dad bonds with his tyke by getting him drunk at a strip club. The John Kricfalusi-meets-space-age style makes it cute and fun.
I Read It In The Paper features ink sketches of nude women writhing over a shifting newspaper background as a guy reads snatches of the business personals. You’ll guess the joke, but the visuals keep you engaged.
Good deadpan humour figures in I Missed?, about a couple who achieve some astoundingly inept sexual positions (I liked the armpit job), and Jarvis, a homely discussion/demonstration of the relationship of house cats to sex.
Screens twice on Saturday (September 6) at the Bloor.
