ELEVEN MINUTES (Michael Selditch, Rob Tate, U.S.). 102 minutes. Thursday (April 24), 9:15 pm; Friday (April 25), 11:45 pm, Bloor. Rating: NNN
Jay McCarroll, the flamboyant winner of the inaugural season of addictive reality show Project Runway, puts together his first collection for New York’s Fashion Week, and directors Michael Selditch and Rob Tate – both friends of the designer – are there to capture every mini-meltdown.
What’s surprising is how much business is involved in putting together that 11-minute runway show, from dealing with publicists and contract sewers to trying to woo potential buyers. McCarroll comes across as whiny, egotistical and pretty naive. PR fans won’t learn much – the show’s barely mentioned, perhaps for copyright reasons – but the lead-up to the runway show is climactic, and the directors do capture the city’s energy.
