Feting the best of the year

Next week, NOW’s film writers unveil their lists of the year’s top 10 movies – and it’s going to be bloody. (Hint: some of the same titles get best and worst honours.) In the meantime, juries for the Toronto Film Critics Association and the Toronto International Film Festival Group weighed in this week with their lists. A confession: I was one of 10 people on the TIFFG features jury this year, and I’ll write about watching so much great (and not so great) Canadian film in this space next week.

If you’re curious, look for Wendy And Lucy in January, Before Tomorrow in February, Pontypool in March, Fifty Dead Men Walking in the spring and Adoration in May. Cinematheque also screens the TIFFG films with intros and Q&A from January 30 to February 7.

The yet-to-be-released Wendy And Lucy and Michelle Williams won big.
