Geeks Touching

Rating: NNNNN

GHOST WORLD (2001, Terry Zwigoff) Rating: NNNNN

Perpetually sarcastic, disenfranchised teens Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson search for their place in the world of eccentric adults in Zwigoff’s inspired take on Daniel Clowes’s comic book. Birch is especially touching as the weird teen who believes she’s the coolest person in the room. Only when she meets misanthropic record collector Steve Buscemi does she start considering the cost of remaining emotionally aloof. Clowes and other comic book artists including Adrian Tomine, Chris Ware, James Sturm and Ivan Brunetti will be on hand after the screening for a panel discussion. Admission: $4 at the door.
